Dear dedicated Filepak users,
Relax, nothing bad is happening to your favourite file host - I just need to discuss with you about some changes that need to go about on the site. You may have noticed (Well, let's say if you didn't, you're pretty blind) that the site has a new look. Remain calm, changes are being very carefully scrutinised to ensure that the reason you use the site remains the same – simple, bullshit free file hosting.
Filepak has continued to grow and, through various suggestions provided by YOU, has improved on many of its features. But the time has come where a re-write is necessary. The site will be re-written from scratch, ensuring that the site is easy to expand upon, unlike the old site (Which I’m surprised still works). The time has come for you, again, to have further input into the direction of the site – you see, as Filepak continues to grow and deliver files worldwide, the site is starting to dig into its budget (read: a whole $0), which is actually my personal savings. It’s time for the site to separate itself from me and become a self-sustaining entity that can REALLY start to grow. This is where you come in.
I need you guys to help me choose a way for the site to generate some form of income. Not a profit, just something to cover the base cost. See that box over to the right (Ignore if you are using adblock as it already filters it)? If I were to place a single ad in that box, would it bother you at all? You don’t need to click it and I encourage adblock (You browse the web the way you want, damnit!) to be used. If you were to contribute $5 or more to the site, the ad would be completely removed from the site for you PERMANENTLY, as well as a possible few extra features I can muster up for you. These features, to be introduced with the new Filepak, will consist of the following:
When upload a non-media file, such as a ZIP or RAR file (Excluding images, text, etc.) you are given a link to your file. When a user clicks that link, they are taken to a page with your file as a big, bold headline that when clicked, starts the download for your file (I swear there will be no waiting for your, EVER). Below that headline is a user-entered description of the file (Optional). This allows you to host your file on a forum and around the web, whilst the 1 download link will provide a description to ALL the users who download your file (RAR passwords, instructions on what to do with the downloaded file etc). If you are a contributor, you may choose to just use the direct link to your file instead, skipping the extra click.
This is all a work in progress and I guarantee you that things may shift around a bit, but this is the basic premise of what will happen to the site. Now I need you to voice your opinion and be heard – exactly what is it that you think should be done to the site? Be descriptive; think of this as an ultra-suggestion box – the prime time for your idea to be put into action. If any of the above bothers you, tell me. Say what it is that annoys you and what to change to make it annoy you less. I’m counting on you guys!
